Ode to One Bunny’s Wool

Hey all,

Welcome. I want to take this time to honor and reflect on One Bunny’s Wool. Some of you may have noticed that I have switched over from being known as “One Bunny’s Wool” to “Sara Guren”. Good observation my friend! How did this happen? Well, let’s take a look.

We’ll start from the very beginning. It’s a very good place to start.

Here’s how it all went down for me and my family in 2020…

Read a book with your kids… Get really excited when you see that a bunny can produce fiber… Buy a baby bunny and name her Patches (OH the CUTENESS!!!)… Wait for Patches to grow up

Learn how to trim a rabbit with scissors (it doesn’t hurt)… give her a mohawk because it’s fun… check out how much fiber can be produced from one bunny (it’s as big as her!)… learn how to card the fiber to prepare it to hand spin… learn how to hand spin English Angora Fiber… do this on repeat!

Spin super chunky, fluffy English Angora yarn… Make sure Patches approves… Knit the yarn into a hat… Make sure Patches approves again, of course :).

Do this so much that you love it and can’t stop knitting because you feel driven by something ancient that runs through your hands and share with people because you can’t NOT share and form a business because otherwise things are going to start piling up in your house and there’s only so many hats that 4 people in your family can wear… (breathe!)

So there you are, the beginning in pictures and captions. Our bunny Patches has been the foundation of it all. Since the beginning there has been so much evolution and growth — I have connected with communities like Rust Belt Fibershed and Praxis Fiber Workshop who have lead me to beautiful creative spaces in this world we call fiber.

And it’s not just fiber folks, this is a connection, a reconnection to Earth, to source, to spaces of slow, deliberate movement and time standing still.

And now dear ones, we come to the part of our story where the evolution happened — where the switch from “One Bunny’s Wool” to “Sara Guren” occurred. The realization that endings have to happen in order for beginnings to begin. I am so sad to report that at the beginning of this year Patches passed away. She has moved on to the otherworld, but I stay here in this space of the super comfy cozy fiber world with all of you, thanks to her. So here we are, forever changed by one little bunny.

And now the evolution and the realization that this little bunny patches is how I got to connect with you dear friends! And now we have the opportunity to create this regenerative community, stepping away from social media into a nourishing, joyful and creative space.

And so we evolve — that’s what we all want to do right? A person evolves, a business evolves, things change.

I still have massive amounts of her fiber to spin and lots more stories to share later, but in the meantime here’s an Ode to Patches with a fan favorite video from 2022. Enjoy.

With Love, Sara
